Anything that has to do with Kubernetes cannot be accessed without owning a google cloud platform(GCP) account or a worthy substitute account like Azure Microsoft, or running Kubernetes itself locally.

As an Hamoye intern in the data engineering track, you would begin to need the GCP or Azure app from stage C, when you begin the course ‘Introduction to Kubernetes’ till the end of the internship. Everything about Kubeflow and Kubernetes will be included in the stages from C to E, and these apps will be of great help. Here is how to get these apps

  1. Go to console.developers.google.com and sign in. A google account is needed to do this. If you have a gmail account, you might not need to sign in afresh.

2. After you have been signed in and the home page has been launched as seen below, a dialogue box will appear that requires your agreement to the terms of Google cloud platform.

3. If you wish to proceed after considering these terms, click the box(es), then “Agree and Continue”.

4. You should now see a brand new Google cloud platform account.

Common Blockers in GCP/Azure/Kubernetes Installation and How to Resolve Them

  1. A 12-month trial period is activated if your google account is billing enabled, otherwise, a $300 in credit is given upon the activation of your account; this lasts only 30 days.
  2. One vital reason you should consider downloading the GCP or Azure is because of the effort involved in running kubeflow on local.
  3. About 8Gb RAM and above, probably with some $100 is required to successfully set up kubernetes locally on a PC. However, GCP provides the use of Kubernetes without the hassle of setting it up on local.
  4. Immediately the task for stage C or any other stage going forward has been dropped, it’s best to set up a GCP(or Azure) account, bearing in mind the $300 credits for a 30-day period.

How to create a Microsoft Azure Account

Quite similar to the steps for creating a google cloud platform account, the microsoft azure is also very easy to create. Begin by executing the following instructions:

  1. Go to www.azure.com, and click the “Free Account” button

2. On the new page, click “Start free” and the sign-in information box pops up on the screen.

3. There are several sign-in options to choose from as can be seen in the above and below examples. Determine the option that suits you best; the option used in this example is a Microsoft outlook mail.

4. Once you are signed in, the azure homepage is made available and you can access your free account.

5. Similar to GCP, when you are signed up, you are immediately eligible for a free 12-months of popular service, plus a $200 credit.
